Today, we will stroll along Kampot Riverside. I have added some of my favorite things to do (so far) whether it be day or night. The Riverwalk along the Praek Tuek Chhu River, which is southeast of the Elephant Mountains and around 5 km (3 mi) from the Gulf of Thailand. I found the river to be similar to the Phnom Penh Riverside walk along the Mekong river, albeit a little cleaner, laid back, and a safer vibe.
Kampot Riverside During the Day
At the time of this photo, it was approximately 9AM and I had just eaten an egg breakfast across the street (for $3) and the Riverside Walk was nearly empty. I passed a young woman reading a book, and a few others just relaxing on the benches, and a couple that were going for jog. In comparison to the Mekong River, the Praek Tuek Chhu River is much cleaner and doesn’t have the muddy brown color that the Mekong has.

You can see that the water is more clear the the Mekong and makes for a more pleasant experience. Off in the distance you can see the Entanou “Rainbow Bridge“, which was built during the French colonial era. It connects the town of Kampot with the nearby countryside, where you can find rice fields, pepper farms, salt flats, temples, and a more traditional local culture. I am looking forward to visiting there in soon, and will be sure to post about it here! Kampot Riverside at Night
As I stroll along the Kampot Riverside at night, I couldn’t help but to feel relaxed and thankful for having the privilege of being able to witness such a beautiful place so far away from home. I have always felt entirely safe in Kampot, and at peace with the world. The longer I stay here, the more I fall in love with the town and know that this is a place that I would love to revisit.
While the riverwalk is very relaxing, across the street is very vibrant and “alive”… You will see restaurants and bars that stay open late into the night, with some staying open to the early morning (as late/early as 5AM). So, whether you want to kick off the flip flops for a leisurely stroll or spend the night socializing with expats, locals, and tourists in the bars then the possibilities are endless. I will post more about the nightlife in a future post. I enjoy an occasional cocktail so I may be an authority on this topic in the near future. Ha!

I really enjoy walking along the riverside, whether it is day or night. It feels very safe and have never met an unfriendly face. Would it be a place that I would consider retiring to? I have only been here a week, so it is too early to say, but it does have that “home” type of feeling that I could get used to. An “Extended Stay” would be an absolute YES!
